Vitamin K is the generic name for a group of compounds which includes vitamin K1 (also known as phylloquinone or phytomenadione), menaquinones and a synthetic form menadione. Please note, only vitamin K1 is measured by the reference laboratory. Plasma vitamin K1 is influenced by plasma triglyceride concentrations. Results are therefore reported as a vitamin K1:triglyceride ratio. Sent to: Scottish Trace Element and Micronutrient Reference Laboratory, Glasgow Royal Infirmary FOR LAB USE ONLY: SST and haemolysed samples are unsuitable. Samples unprotected from light for more than 24 hours are also unsuitable. Samples received on a Friday should be stored frozen.
Patient Preparation
Fasting samples preferred, or at least 8 hours post treatment if on supplementation or TPN.
