Description

Glycine receptors are required for regulating motor neuron excitabiliy [1]. The presence of glycine receptor antibodies is associated with spinal and brain stem disorders [2] including stiff person syndrome and progressive encephalomyelitis with rigidity and myoclonus (PERM) [1,2].


Indications

Spinal and brain stem disorders (Stiff person syndrome and PERM).


Sample Type

2mL Serum (Gel 5mL Yellow tube). Requests from outside Sheffield: Transport at ambient temperature via Royal Mail or Courier.


Reference Range

Normal = Negative.


Turnaround Time

Within 4 weeks


Testing Frequency

As required (send away test).
