Plasma, Lithium Heparin or EDTA, minimum 1 mL separated. To reach laboratory A.S.A.P.

External Notes

Total plasma homocysteine is available from Haematology and should be used for routine testing. This test is generally used for further investigation of high plasma homocysteine levels. Please contact the Duty Biochemist (via switchboard) to discuss. Sent to: Department of Clinical Chemistry, Sheffield Children's Hospital FOR LAB USE ONLY: If a citrate sample is received for homocysteine, forward sample to Haematology urgently. Samples must be processed within 1 hr of venepuncture. If a lithium heparin/EDTA sample is received centrifuge sample promptly and remove plasma with a pipette. Do not disturb buffy coat.
