Haematology
Description
ESR is performed on the Starrsed Interrliner v8, part of the XN9000 automated haematology track system, according to the Westergren method.
Indications
Inflammatory conditions. May be sent as an urgent request where Temporal Arteritis is suspected.
Sample Type
Whole blood ( 4ml EDTA purple topped vacutainer )
Reference Range
Male : 1 - 10Female : 1 - 15
Turnaround Time
Within 1 day (1 hour urgent)
Testing Frequency
Daily
External Notes
FBC and ESR can be performed on the same sample, however the minimum sample requirement is 1.4ml for ESR alone. ESR is not available on paediatric samples. Please inform the haematology laboratory beforehand if your ESR is required urgently ( x14723 NGH and x12594 RHH )
