Bone Alkaline Phosphatase (Bone ALP)
Clinical Chemistry
Description
Bone alkaline phosphatase ( ALP ) is useful for confirming whether a raised total ALP is of bone origin. It is more specific than heat stability studies carried out as part of the ALP isoenzymes test.
Indications
Raised total ALP in patients with suspected bone disease associated with increased osteoblastic activity. It may be more helpful for monitoring change/response to treatment when total ALP is normal.
Sample Type
Serum, SST/Gel. Minimum 2 mL (1 mL separated serum). Avoid haemolysis. Storage at -20C. Samples can be sent by first class post avoiding weekends.
