External Notes
Thyroid/Pancreatic specimens should be sent in CytoRich Red. Breast/neck/lymph node and other FNAs, plus bladder washings and urine samples not for crystal analysis, should be sent in green cytopin collection fluid. EBUS specimens should be sent in cytolyte fluid. For CSF samples, send fresh. A sample volume requirement of 2-5ml should ensure that neither insufficient nor excessive amounts of sample are collected. Other fluids or aspirates: no more than 25ml of fluid, collected in a sterile universal tube. Deliver fresh or refrigerate if out of hours.
