Endothelial Cell Antibodies
Immunology
Description
Endothelial cell antibodies are directed against various antigens on the surface of endothelial cells. They have various pathophysiological effects on endothelial cells, include increased leukocyte adhesiveness, cytotoxicity, induction of apoptosis and activation of coagulation and thrombosis [1]. These autoantibodies have been seen in some cases of immune vasculitic diseases, including Wegener's granulomatosis and Kawasaki's disease, and also with SLE and anti-phospholipid syndrome (APS) [2,3]. Endothelial cell antibodies have also been shown to occur in healthy individuals [1].
