Toxicology / Drug Screen in Suspected Poisoning (full urine drug screen)
Clinical Chemistry
Description
Includes high resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) screen, ethanol quantitation, and immunoassays for the presence of cannabis.
The HRMS screen covers an extensive range of illicit, OTC and prescription drugs. Results are provided in the form of a list of drugs that the patient has used or been exposed to. Notable exclusions include GHB, aspirin, digoxin, lithium, theophylline, phenytoin, valproate, chloral hydrate, steroids, hormones, sodium nitrate/nitrite, toxic metals, and most inhaled and volatile substances including carbon monoxide, nitrous oxide and alkyl nitrates (“poppers”).
Please indicate with the request if screening for specific drugs or poisons is required and/or contact the Toxicology laboratory to discuss specific cases if required. The duty toxicologist is available for contact on 0114 2267240 or via email: sht-tr.toxicology@nhs.net.
