Indications

This test is only performed in cases of acute hepatitis with very high transaminases ( usually in 1000s ). Please do not request where LFTs are not that high. If patient does not have enough liver reserve to have high ALT ( eg cirrhosis ) and index of suspicion for HEV is high, please either write these details on the form or contact the medical virologist on NGH bleep 537 or ext 14524
