Description

IGF-1 is synthesised by many tissues, primarily the liver but also by peripheral tissues in response to GH and other factors, such as age, sex and nutritional status. IGF-1 has diverse endocrine, paracrine and autocrine actions. It is the primary mediator of the growth-promoting and anabolic actions of GH and can also bind weakly to the insulin receptor due to its structural similarity to proinsulin.
