Description

Malaria investigations involve a variety of techniques including traditional microscopical examination of thin and thick films and supplemented by immunological screening method (RDT).


Indications

Symptomatic of malaria with a relevant travel history.


Sample Type

Whole blood ( EDTA 4.0ml Lavender )


Turnaround Time

Within 1 hour (final report within 1 working day)


Testing Frequency

Daily


External Notes

1. Positive samples are refered to London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine for confirmation of Sub-species and for National monitoring purposes.

2. All negatives should be repeated for 3 consecutive days.

3. Full travel history and notes on prophylaxis must be given.

4. If suspecting other blood borne parasite please give a clear indication on request.
