Description

In women younger than 45 years, a form of encephalitis associated with ovarian teratoma and presenting with seizures and psychiatric symptoms has been described. Most patients have antibodies to NR1/NR2 heteromers of the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) [1].


Indications

Cerebral dysfunction. Paraneoplastic encephalitis associated with immature teratoma of the ovary.


Sample Type

2mL Serum (Gel 5mL Yellow tube) or 250uL CSF. Requests from outside Sheffield: Transport at ambient temperature via Royal Mail or Courier.


Reference Range

Negative = Normal.
