Protein (urine):- Protein:creatinine ratio (PCR) or 24 hour urine protein

Clinical Chemistry

Description

Urine protein can be measured in a number of formats: To detect and identify proteinuria in non-pregnant patients, use albumin:creatinine ratio ( ACR ) in preference, as it has greater sensitivity than PCR for low levels of proteinuria. For quantification and monitoring of high levels of proteinuria ( ACR 70 mg/mmol or more ), PCR can be used as an alternative. ACR is the recommended method for people with diabetes ( NICE CG182, 2014 ). PCR can be used as an alternative to 24 hour urine protein in monitoring renal patients.

Indications

To diagnose or monitor proteinuria. Often measured in renal patients and in pregnancy as part of routine monitoring.
