Description

This procedure is for the examination of renal biopsy specimens for the presence of immunoglobulins G, A, M, fibrinogen, serum amyloid P, complement C3, C1q, C4d, kappa and lambda light chains. Transplant biopsies are also examined for the presence of lymphoid cells with CD markers CD3, CD4, CD8, CD11c and CD19. The localisation of immune complexes or cellular infiltrates within the kidney is of value to help in the diagnosis and management of a variety of renal conditions.


Indications

Diagnosis of glomerulonephritis in native kidney. Suspected rejection in a transplanted kidney.


Sample Type

Kidney in Michaels medium.

External Notes

Standard panel consists of anti IgG /IgA /IgM /C3 /C4d /C1q /amyloid P / fibrinogen /kappa /lambda. Transplant panel consists of standard panel plus anti CD3 /CD4 /CD8 /CD11c /CD19.
