Description

Antibodies against the cytoplasm of the salivary duct cells are seen in Sjogren's syndrome and also in rheumatoid arthritis, SLE and myasthenia gravis [1]. They are usually IgG class although IgM antibodies may be detected at approximately half the frequencey of IgG antibodies. IgA antibodies to salivary duct are rarely seen [1]. Salivary duct antibodies are seen in approximately 50% of individuals with Sjogren's syndrome [1]. The most common autoantibodies in primary Sjorgren's syndrome are those that target the Ro/La RNP complex and these are included in the European-American diagnostic criteria for primary Sjogren's syndrome [2,3].
