Lymphocyte Subsets (HIV Immune Monitoring)
Haematology
Description
Subset analysis ( primarily the CD4 count ) is important in HIV infected individuals, to monitor disease progression and effectiveness of treatment. Lymphocyte subset analysis is also carried out on various patient groups to determine the absolute number of T helper, T suppressor, B and NK lymphocytes present. Lymphocyte subsets are performed on patients presenting with an unexplained lymphocytosis to establish the nature of the proliferation and to help distinguish reactive changes from malignant disease.
Indications
Lymphocyte subsets indicated for CD4 count monitoring in HIV patients, patients on rituximab therapy for CD19 B cell counts, or for other monitoring purposes, such as immune deficiencies, post allogeneic stem cell transplant, or infectious diseases where appropriate
