External Notes

Small samples must have a minimal volume of sterile saline added to avoid dessication. FORMALIN MUST NOT BE ADDED. Single samples requiring both Culture and Histopathology must be sent to Microbiology in the first instance with a separate request for Histopathology. The sample will be aseptically apportioned and sent on. Multiple samples are usually required for confirmation of some infections in orthopaedic patients.
