Total Protein

Clinical Chemistry

Description

Plasma proteins are predominantly synthesised in the liver and immune system. The main protein fraction present in plasma is albumin; therefore any changes in albumin concentration can have an effect on total protein concentration. There are also many other proteins present in plasma, including 1-antitrypsin, haptoglobins, caeruloplasmin, transferrin and -globulins (e.g. IgG, IgA, IgM, IgD and IgE).
