VWF Antigen (VWF:Ag)

Coagulation

Description

VWF serves two functions in haemostasis, as a carrier protein for FVIII and as a bifunctional ligand mediating platelet GP1b a adhesion to collagen. VWF in plasma is detectable immunologically as VWF:Ag. A reduction in VWF activity results in von Willebrand Disease ( VWD ). The VWF:Ag may be within normal limits in some types of VWD.
