Description
Hepatitis E is an illness of the liver caused by Hepatitis E virus. Infection usually produces a mild disease, however in rare cases it can be fatal. The virus is transmitted through contaminated water in developing countries and through consumption of pork products in developed countries.
Indications
Hepatitis E PCR /RNA testing is only indicated in select immunocompromised patients, such as renal /stem cell transplant patients. All other requests will be referred to the Consultant Virology team to assess whether clinically required.
