Quality Lead and Designated Individual for HTA Human Application Licence (Bone Bank) - Histopathology
Karen started in Histology at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals in March 2005 as a Trainee Biomedical Scientist, becoming HCPC registered in August 2006 and a Specialist Biomedical Scientist in November 2008.
In October 2009 she was appointed Advanced BMS for Health, Safety and Risk, starting a 10 year career as an Advanced BMS. During this time she held a dual role alongside the H&S role, first as Advanced BMS in Specimen reception and dissection, and then in Main Laboratory, before finally becoming Advanced BMS Quality Lead in 2015.
She has held the position of Acting Deputy Lab Manager in 2018 – 2020, covering three consecutive periods of maternity leave at managerial level.
In August 2019 she took on the role of Designated Individual for the HTA Human Application licence (Bone Bank) alongside her role as Quality Lead.
In addition Karen is also a UKAS Medical Laboratory Technical Assessor in Cellular Pathology.
