Leeanne Tovey BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science, MSc Medical Microbiology

Acting Lead Laboratory Manager - Microbiology & Virology

Having trained in Microbiology at Medway Hospital in Kent Leeanne started her career as a locum, experiencing work at a wide range of Trusts and developing a wider perspective of laboratories. In 2002 she put this experience to use spending a year working as a volunteer at the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed in Bangladesh. This involved working with the pathology team to look at risks within the workplace, improve test techniques and develop the Microbiology knowledge and tests they were able to offer. In addition support was given to students of the Bangladesh Health Professions Institute.

In 2004 Leeanne started in the role of Biomedical Scientist in the Virology Department at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. Working her way through the grades she acheived the position of Laboratory Manager for Virology in September 2019. In August 2022 Leeanne was appointed as the Acting Lead Lab Manager for Virology and leads a team of experienced dedicated laboratory staff who have risen and met all challenges of the COVID pandemic.
