Deputy Laboratory Manager - Haematology


Margaret started work in 1976 as a Junior Biomedical Laboratory Technician for the Central Sheffield Hospitals district which included the Royal Hospital, Royal Infirmary, Jessop Hospital Weston Park and Hallamshire OPD Wing. Margaret gained her HNC and qualified as a State Registered MLT in 1978. The Royal Hallamshire Hospital (RHH) opened and gradually all the laboratories moved to be centralised at RHH.

In 1989 Margaret applied for a Senior Post at Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Royal Hospital Foundation Trust (CNDRH). Here the post was rotational, working as a Senior BMS in Coagulation/Haematology and Blood Transfusion where Margaret was involved in the formation of a Blood Sciences department at CNDRH.

In 2001 Margaret returned to work in Sheffield in Haematology as a Chief Biomedical Scientist and Deputy Laboratory Manager.  She was involved in closer working of the departments at RHH and NGH and then the move in 2012 to a new Laboratory Medicine Building with cross site working with the RHH Haematology Laboratory.

 Margaret is Chairperson of the Sheffield IBMS branch and has 45 years of NHS experience.
