Clinical Director, Consultant Histopathologist


Dr Yota Kitsanta joined Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Histopathology as a Consultant in June 2002 and very soon subspecialised in Lung and Gastrointestinal Pathology having done research in both these areas. She is also active on Autopsy Practice and one of the key founders of the Modern Combined Digital and Conventional Autopsy Teaching Facility at the Medicolegal Centre in Sheffield.

She served in the role of the Designated Individual (DI) for HTA of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals for just less than three years from April 2019 till January 2021.

She was the Chair Training Programme Director of Histopathology for 7 years from 2013 till 2020 when she became the Head of School of Pathology in Yorkshire and Humber.

Her educational role had significant contributions in training and teaching as well as facilitating and promoting academic training and research.

Dr Kitsanta is well known for her clinical work with leading roles in Colorectal Cancer and Lung MDTs, Lung CDG and served as a Cancer Peer Reviewer at a National level for many years.

Beyond her Medical Qualifications, she also holds a Postgraduate Certificate on Health Care Education and an MBA on Medical Leadership with previous consulting roles for South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology Network project and other Service Reviews and Improvement projects for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
